How To Get Rid of Scalp Odor
It is a well-known fact that body odor greatly influences the sexual attraction of the opposite sex. Unfortunately, sometimes there are problems with this. For example, an unpleasant aroma from the hair and head can occur even with proper and complete care. In this article, we break down the causes and ways to treat the problem.
Causes of Scalp Odor
The intensity of the smell depends on the activity of sebaceous and sweat glands. In young healthy people, skin secretion is active, so the scalp becomes oily from adolescence. In older people, hormone levels are already reduced, the oiliness of the skin becomes less.
Each person has his own skin microbiome – an individual set of bacteria, viruses, fungi. If the balance of microorganisms is disturbed, the growth of some bacteria increases. Skin diseases, seborrheic dermatitis appear. Some bacteria (e.g. Corynebacterium) feed on the secretion of skin glands and release substances that smell bad: sulfonyl, volatile fatty acids, acetic acid.
Besides, it is known that hair has a peculiarity to absorb a variety of odors. Therefore, people often try to disguise them by using different perfumes. Experts do not recommend resorting to this solution.
- Firstly, eau de toilette contributes to the discoloration of the hair.
- Secondly, it is generally designed for other purposes.
- Thirdly, due to the high alcohol content, it dries the hair and scalp.
To identify the true causes of bad scalp and hair odor, you should consult a specialist. But among the main causes are called:
- consumed food (smoked foods, pickles, sauces, spices);
- problems with internal organs (kidney, liver, intestinal diseases);
- hormonal changes;
- regular use of cosmetics (foams, serums, etc.);
- thin hair;
- sebaceous gland disorders;
- seborrhea;
- dirty and untidy hair.
Elimination of Scalp Odor
Firstly, it is necessary to wash your hair regularly with a good and quality shampoo against scalp odor. If necessary, the procedure can be carried out daily.
If you do not clean your skin enough, it accumulates layers of dead epithelium, sebum, where bacteria grow very well. And especially the fungus Malassezia, which leads to dandruff, itching, and inflammation. To ensure clean skin, you need to exfoliate regularly.
You can rinse your hair with water and essential oils after washing to give your hair a pleasant fragrance. The only contraindication in this case: an allergic reaction. In this case, the use of essential oils should be abandoned.
Experts recommend the use of special deodorants for hair. They will not cause any harm and will give a unique fragrance. You can purchase them in a specialized store. Use such deodorants should be according to the instructions on the package of the product.
It would help if you reconsidered your diet. It is necessary to exclude from the menu fatty and fried foods, smoked foods, marinades, artificial spices, and various sauces.
If, while observing all the hygiene rules, the unpleasant scalp odor does not give you peace, be sure to consult a specialist. Remember: the causes of this problem can be quite serious.
