This is simply a two-dimensional measurement whereas the scoliosis curve is a three-dimensional downside. It is a twist and bend that creates torque, causing extra twisting, bending, and buckling of the backbone. We call this self-feeding loop a “coil down effect.” Imagine the spine if it was a rubber band twisted from the top and backside till it creates a coil in the center.
